Since May, Stephen, Phill, David and Paul have been consistently attending our Pilates for Golfers sessions at Windermere Golf Club - and it has been fantastic to see how much their practice has progressed.
The group began by learning the foundations of the Pilates method: understanding the exercises, developing movement awareness and building the strength and control required to perform them well. They are now progressing into more of the intermediate Pilates repertoire.
For us, progression isn't about making an exercise harder. It comes when someone has developed the mobility, strength, coordination and understanding required for the next challenge.

Why Pilates for Golfers?
A golf swing is a complex whole-body movement. The body needs to generate and transfer force from the ground through the legs and pelvis, while the spine rotates and the shoulders and arms coordinate the movement of the club.
Pilates complements these demands by developing spinal rotation, hip mobility and strength, balance, coordination and whole-body control.
Importantly, the goal isn't simply to create more flexibility. Golfers need enough mobility to access a movement, but also enough strength and control to use that range effectively. Pilates provides opportunities to develop both.
Benefits Beyond Golf
Although our sessions are designed around the physical demands of golf, these qualities are equally valuable away from the course.
Hip and spinal mobility support everyday bending and turning, leg strength contributes to walking and climbing stairs, while maintaining balance and coordination becomes increasingly important as we age.
Pilates also encourages the body to move through different positions and planes of movement that may be missing from everyday routines.
Supporting Training Between Sessions
Our golfers also have access to their own private online portal, allowing their Pilates practice to continue beyond the weekly class.
They can find a Pilates-inspired warm-up to use before playing golf, alongside mobility and flexibility drills to practise between sessions. These aren't intended to become another lengthy workout - they are short, practical ways to prepare the hips, spine and shoulders for golf and maintain regular movement throughout the week.
Consistency Creates Progress
The progress Stephen, Phill, David and Paul have made since May is a great example of what consistent practice can achieve.
They haven't rushed towards advanced exercises. Instead, they have spent time understanding the fundamentals, improving their movement quality and gradually progressing their Pilates repertoire.
That is at the heart of our sport-specific approach at Luna Collective: using Pilates intelligently to develop the mobility, strength, balance and coordination that help people continue doing the sports and activities they love - both now and for years to come.
